Project Birch Forest

Project Birch Forest

Like the Ancient Greek agora, people tend to interact at a common space, market place, church or theater. They walk through streets, visit shops, meet friends or just look around. Then, they reach a central Piazza where they become part of community enjoying a performance - music, song, dance or theater (video projection). The allure and generosity of the exhibition titled Birch Forest admits a viewer into the universe of creative artists.

Birch Forest is a rotating exhibition that serves as a kind of microcosm of the world. It conveys myriad allusions including something primeval as well as futuristic. It is not an actual forest but will consist of a host of materials such as light, as well as more tangible, solid forms. The forest is meant to be an environment of sustainability for all persons. It does not discriminate, and allows individuals a heaven for their ideas, creativity, and is a site for articulating projects be they music, theater, dance, spoken word, and the visual arts.

The art works to be presented encompass the range of artistic possibility. The exhibition  Birch Forest is not hindered by a certain theme or narratives, but offers total freedom to the artist (s) to explore, investigate and experiment.

Birch Forest will engender artist practice by its very nature. In this sense  the Birch Forest installation is not a site specific work; for it can be build according to the needs of a given project.

Artists are not to be hindered in their choice of subject, form, style and media for their artworks. Birch Forest is socially coherent in that it offers artists to the possibility of working together in a shared space that offers solace to the arts and nurtures them.

The Exhibition Will Include:

1. The birch forest installation (white paper tubes) is minimalist. It creates an atmosphere of being surrounded by white birch trees. It can be lit by LED lights in different ways - black and white or any color of the rainbow. The installation can be interactive - viewers walk through the dark forest with small LED lights of different colors and enjoy shadows cast by the lights.

2. Video installation: video and photo projection on the ceiling. Viewers can watch the projection standing, sitting, or lying down on the floor surrounded by birches (green pillows are provided).

3. Sound installation (hints of birdsong, wind whispering through leaves, owl and frog noises and rain). Forest fragrances (moss, grass, mushrooms and flowers).

4. Live performance: dance, singing, music, poetry, pantomime, sound music

5. Paintings, photographs and sculptural installations will be incorporated into the forest.
